Micah’s audience asks what impressive offering might satisfy God. The prophet answers by returning to a way of life already made known. God is not manipulated by spectacle.
Read the verse inside the conversation that precedes it. Notice how ordinary and demanding the verbs are.
Reflect
To do justice is to seek what is right in relationships and systems, especially where power is uneven. It requires more than private good intentions. Justice asks who bears the cost of our habits and whose voice is missing from the decision.
To love mercy is to value steadfast kindness, not merely offer it when convenient. Mercy refuses to reduce people to their worst moment. It can be tender while still telling the truth and establishing boundaries that protect the vulnerable.
To walk humbly with God places both justice and mercy within companionship. Humility is not self-erasure. It is freedom from needing to be the centre, willingness to learn and readiness to act without turning goodness into a performance.
The three belong together. Choose one ordinary setting—home, work, church or neighbourhood. Ask what is fair, what is merciful and what keeps you teachable there. Then take the smallest action that joins the words into a walk.

Pray
God of justice and mercy, shape the way I walk. Make me attentive to what is right, generous in steadfast love and humble enough to listen, learn and follow you. Amen.
