Arrive

Hagar has already encountered the God who sees. Now she is again in the wilderness, carrying the consequences of decisions made by people with more power.

Reflect

The text does not hide the severity of the moment. Water is gone, a child is in danger and Hagar cannot bear to watch. Faithful reading begins by allowing that distress to remain real.

God hears the boy and calls Hagar by name. The question, “What troubles you?” meets fear with attention rather than blame.

Her eyes are opened to a well. Provision is both gift and action: she must see, fill the skin and give water. Hope becomes concrete care for a body in danger.

This story should make communities more attentive to displaced people, single parents and children at risk. Pray for opened eyes, then help make water, shelter and safety materially available.
