A Simple Way to Spend Time With Scripture

Devotional drawing is a quiet, creative way to engage with the Bible.

You don’t need to be an artist.
You don’t need the right supplies.
You don’t need to know what to draw ahead of time.

You just need a verse, a page, and a few moments of attention.

Print it out or open it on a tablet.

How Devotional Drawing Works

1. Read the Scripture

Each page begins with a short Bible passage or verse.

Read it slowly.
You can read it once, or read it again after you’ve started drawing.

There’s no rush.

2. Look at the Starter Scene

You’ll see a simple illustration — just part of the moment.

It might be:

  • A person in the story
  • An object or setting
  • The beginning of an event

This is intentional. The rest is left open for you.

3. Draw the Rest of the Scene

Use the blank space to draw whatever comes to mind.

You might draw:

  • What happens next
  • What’s happening around the scene
  • How the moment feels
  • What you notice in the Scripture

There’s no correct picture.
Stick figures are welcome.

4. Pause and Reflect

When you finish (or even while you’re drawing), take a moment to reflect.

You might ask:

  • What stood out to me in this passage?
  • Why did I draw it this way?
  • What might God be showing me here?

Some people like to pray, journal, or talk together at this point.
Others just sit quietly.

How to Use These Pages

For Individuals

  • Use during quiet time or devotional reading
  • Draw in silence or with worship music
  • Reflect before or after drawing

For Families

  • Read the Scripture together
  • Let everyone draw their own version
  • Share what you drew and why
  • No correcting — everyone’s picture is different

For Groups, Classrooms & Churches

  • Read the passage aloud
  • Give time to draw quietly
  • Invite sharing (optional)
  • Use drawings to spark discussion

This works beautifully for mixed ages.

What You’ll Need

  • A printed page (or a tablet)
  • A pencil, pen, or crayons
  • A few minutes of time

That’s it.

A Gentle Reminder

This is not about making “good art.”

It’s about:

  • Slowing down
  • Paying attention
  • Spending time with Scripture
  • Letting imagination and faith meet

However you draw is enough.
