Reflect

The widow’s hunger must not be romanticised. She is preparing for death under conditions of famine and precarity.

She speaks truthfully about what remains. Faithful hospitality does not require hiding need or pretending sacrifice has no cost.

The provision is daily and sufficient, not luxurious. God sustains a household that includes a foreign widow and her son.

This passage should make communities ask why people face empty jars and how shared resources can preserve life without exploiting generosity.
