After Jacob dies, Joseph’s brothers fear retaliation for selling him into slavery. Joseph weeps, names their harmful intent and commits to sustaining their families.

Reflect
Joseph does not rename violence as good. He distinguishes what his brothers intended from what God has brought through a wounded history.
Forgiveness here does not erase truth or automatically restore trust. The harm is named before Joseph promises concrete care.
God’s redemptive work means evil does not control the final meaning of the story; it never means the evil was necessary or acceptable.
Where repair is safe, let grace become material: honest accountability, changed behaviour and protection for people who were harmed.
