Arrive
At Simon’s table, a woman publicly weeps and anoints Jesus. Simon reduces her to a reputation; Jesus tells a story and contrasts her care with his omissions.
Read the passage slowly and notice what Simon thinks privately, the hospitality he withholds and how Jesus addresses the woman.
Reflect
Simon sees a category; Jesus asks whether he sees the woman. Stigma has prevented the host from recognising a person acting with courage and love.
Jesus names concrete hospitality Simon omitted: water, greeting and oil. Respect is measured in embodied treatment, not social standing.
The woman’s actions should not be sexualised or used to shame her. Jesus receives her, interprets love and speaks peace directly to her.
Forgiveness and love move together without making humiliation a requirement. Communities can practise welcome that protects dignity and refuses gossip.
