Arrive
After chapters of instruction and days of preparation, the first priestly service reaches its conclusion. Aaron turns toward the people and blesses them.
Read Leviticus 9:22–24. Keep the blessing, the appearance of glory and the people’s response in their narrative order.
Reflect
Aaron’s raised hands direct attention outward. Priestly service is meant to bless the people, not draw them into admiration of the priest.
The fire signifies divine acceptance within this covenant ritual. It is not produced by stronger emotion, clever staging or pressure on the crowd. God’s presence remains gift rather than performance.
The people respond with sound and bowed bodies. Their awe is shared, yet the passage should not become a rule that every worshipper must display emotion identically. Communities include people whose histories, bodies and cultures shape response differently.
Holy worship refuses both manipulation and casual self-centredness. It makes room for wonder, truth, consent and the wellbeing of the gathered people. The goal is not to recreate fire, but to receive God’s blessing with humility and let reverence reshape communal life.

Pray
Holy God, receive our worship and free us from performance. Let blessing turn our attention toward you and one another, and form in us reverence that is humble, truthful and safe. Amen.

Add two different respectful postures to the open courtyard. During your next gathering, make space for someone whose way of participating differs from yours.
