Jesus knows where he has come from and where he is going. From that secure identity, he takes a towel and kneels.

Read the passage slowly. Notice the people, movements and repeated words before trying to turn it into a lesson.

Reflect

The foot washing is not weakness imposed on Jesus. It is authority deliberately expressed as love for people whose feet are dusty.

Peter struggles to receive. Service creates no superior class of helpers; disciples must learn both to give care and to accept it.

Leaders sometimes ask people with the least power to imitate servanthood while preserving their own privilege. Jesus reverses that pattern by taking the low place himself.

Choose service that is useful, consensual and dignity-giving. If you hold authority, let the towel change how you distribute attention, credit and difficult work.
