Open Acts 3:1–8 in the World English Bible. Read the whole passage slowly, noticing where the man is placed, the exchange of attention, Peter’s words and hands, and where the man goes after rising.

Arrive
Peter and John meet a man whose daily life has been organised around a temple threshold. Other people carry him to the gate, but the story does not yet show him inside the worshipping space.
Read Acts 3:1–10. Notice every movement, every look and the change in where the man is able to go.
Reflect
Peter says, “Look at us.” Attention comes before action. The man is not scenery on Peter’s way to prayer. He is seen and addressed as an adult who can respond.
The healing is given in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, not as evidence of Peter’s personal power. Peter later refuses the crowd’s attempt to explain the event by human power or godliness.
For this man, restored strength also changes access. He enters the temple with Peter and John, praising God. The scene moves from a threshold where he asks for survival to shared participation in worship.
Christians should receive this testimony without weaponising it. Acts does not authorise us to blame people whose bodies are not healed, to treat disability as a spiritual failure or to make promises God has not made. We can pray honestly while also removing barriers, listening to disabled people and building communities where dignity does not depend on a changed body.

- What does Peter do before he tells the man to rise?
- How does the man’s location change after the healing?
- What barrier to dignity or participation could your community remove now?
Pray
Jesus Christ of Nazareth, teach us to see people rather than pass by them. Bring healing as you will, protect us from careless promises and make our communities accessible places of dignity, worship and shared life. Amen.
Carry it with you
Extend the gate into an accessible shared space. Then identify one practical barrier—physical, social or attitudinal—that you can help remove.
