Longing can be a form of prayer. The psalmist’s whole being yearns for God’s courts while others are still travelling toward them.
Reflect
The sparrow has found a home near the altar. The image is tender: even a small creature is imagined as having a place near God.
Those on pilgrimage are called blessed not because the road is easy but because their strength is rooted beyond themselves.
The Valley of Baca remains a valley, yet travellers make it a place of springs. Shared practices and received rain create refreshment without erasing difficulty.
Moving “from strength to strength” may look like receiving enough for each stage. Rest, community and honest longing belong inside endurance.
Pause and notice
A few questions to sit with
- Where do you most deeply long for belonging?
- What makes a dry stage more traversable?
- Who travels with you, and where can you receive strength?
Pray
God of the pilgrim road, give a home to our longing and strength for each stage. Help us make places of refreshment for others as we travel together. Amen.
Carry it with you
Draw a pool beside the path and arrange one replenishing practice or conversation before the next demanding stage.
