Arrive
In the year of King Uzziah’s death, Isaiah sees the Lord, becomes aware of unclean speech, receives cleansing and responds to a call.
Read the passage slowly and notice the political timestamp, the repeated holiness, Isaiah’s confession and the order before his response.
Reflect
The vision begins during political loss. God’s holiness is encountered in a world whose familiar stability has changed.
Isaiah confesses his own speech and the culture surrounding him. Awe produces truth rather than superiority.
Cleansing is received before commissioning. The call does not recruit Isaiah through unresolved shame.
“Here I am” is an available response, not permission for leaders to manipulate people into unsafe or undefined service.
Pause and notice
A few questions to sit with
- What changes when holiness is encountered?
- Why does cleansing precede sending?
- What information and boundaries belong around a faithful yes?
Pray
Holy God, meet us amid uncertainty. Cleanse what harms, release us from shame and make our yes free, wise and faithful. Amen.
Carry it with you
Complete the doorway and write one question you need answered before offering a responsible yes.
